User Guide for Noodletale’s Reading Tools

Reading a story on Noodletale is designed to be seamless. The built-in reading tools appear directly on story pages to help you navigate chapters, bookmark your exact paragraph, and keep track of your favorite stories.

Quick Overview of Tools

  • Chapters: Opens a list of available chapters to jump around.
  • Bookmark: Saves a specific paragraph where you stopped.
  • Save Story: Adds the current story to your personal saved list.
  • Saved Stories: Displays your collection of saved reads.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Chapters

Use Chapters to instantly jump to any part of the story.

  • Click Chapters.
  • Browse the list of chapter headings that appear.
  • Click any chapter name to jump straight to that section.

Note: If a story only contains a single chapter, this button may not appear.

2. Bookmark

Use Bookmark to save the exact paragraph you want to return to later.

  • Click Bookmark (the button will change to Select paragraph mode).
  • Click the specific paragraph you want to save.
  • The paragraph will automatically highlight, and your progress is saved.

Note: To return to your saved spot later, click the Bookmark button again. To remove a bookmark, click the Remove Bookmark button that appears near the highlighted text.

3. Save Story

Use Save Story to keep track of stories you want to read again.

  • Click Save Story to add it to your collection.
  • Click Save Story a second time to remove it from the list.

Note: If you add a bookmark to a story first, it will also automatically be added to your Saved Stories list!

4. Saved Stories

Use Saved Stories to access your personal reading library.

  • Click Saved Stories to view your saved list.
  • Click any story title to open it.

Note: If that story has an active bookmark, it will automatically open right at your saved spot. You can also remove any story from the list using the small remove button next to it.

Important Storage Notes

  • Browser Storage: All saved stories and bookmarks are stored securely directly in your web browser.
  • Data Clearance: Please note that if you clear your browser data or cache, your saved stories and bookmarks may be reset.

 

Read Aloud The Story

If you prefer listening over reading, our Read Aloud feature brings stories to life with synchronized text highlighting.

How to Listen

  1. Open any story or post page.
  2. Tap or click 🔊 Listen.
  3. Audio playback begins immediately, highlighting each word as it is spoken.

Controls

  • Pause: Tap ⏸ Pause to freeze playback at your current position.
  • Resume: Tap the button again (▶ Resume) to pick up where you left off.
  • Stop: Tap ⏹ Stop to end playback and clear the text highlighting.

What to Expect

  • Auto-Scrolling: The page automatically scrolls to keep the currently highlighted word visible on your screen.
  • Session Limits: Reading stops automatically if you leave, navigate away from, or reload the page.
  • Voice Customization: The voice, accent, and speaking speed are determined by your browser or device’s built-in speech settings.

Browser Compatibility Note:

This feature relies on your browser’s speech synthesis capabilities. On mobile devices, it is fully supported on iPhone Safari and Android Chrome. Some older or alternative browsers may not support this feature.

 

Auto Scrolling & Back to Top

If you prefer reading hands-free without manually scrolling, our Auto-Scrolling feature keeps the page moving at your preferred pace.

How to Start Auto Scrolling

  1. Click on the downward facing button.
  2. Choose the scrolling speed.
  3. Click Enable Scrolling.
  4. The button text will change to Stop Scrolling while active.

Adjusting Speed

  • Use the Speed slider to adjust your reading pace anywhere from 0.5x to 4x.
  • Speed changes apply immediately without interrupting your reading.

Stopping Auto-Scroll

  • Click Stop Scrolling in the panel at any time.
  • Auto-scrolling will also stop automatically when you reach the bottom of the page.

Returning to the Top

  • Click the Back to Top button to smoothly scroll back to the beginning of the page.

Important Note:

  • If auto-scroll is currently active, it will automatically stop before the page jumps back to the top.

 

Story Translation

If you prefer to read in a different language, our Story Translation feature seamlessly connects with Google Translate to make content accessible worldwide.

How to Use Translation

  1. Open any story page where the Translate button is visible.
  2. Click the Translate button.
  3. Select your preferred language from the dropdown menu.
  4. A translated version of the current page will open instantly.

What to Expect

  • Page-Specific: Translation applies exclusively to the individual page you are currently viewing.

Important Note

  • The Read Aloud feature does not work when viewing the page in another language.

 

Install the NoodleTale App

NoodleTale is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA). This means you can “install” the website directly onto your phone, tablet, or computer’s home screen or dock straight from your browser—giving you an app-like experience without needing to visit an app store.

OR

Android (Chrome)

  • Open NoodleTale.com in Google Chrome.
  • Tap the browser menu (the three vertical dots in the top-right corner).
  • Select Install app or Add to Home screen.
  • Confirm by tapping Install.
  • Launch the app directly from your home screen for a full-screen experience.

iPhone & iPad (Safari)

  • Open NoodleTale.com in Safari.
  • Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  • Tap Add in the top-right corner.
  • Open NoodleTale from your home screen just like any other mobile app.

Windows & Mac (Chrome or Edge)

  • Open NoodleTale.com in Chrome or Edge.
  • Click the install icon (a monitor with a down arrow) located on the right side of the address bar, or open the browser menu and select Install NoodleTale.
  • Click Install to confirm.
  • Open the app from your desktop, Start menu, or app launcher.
  • Pro Tip: Right-click or pin the app icon to your taskbar or dock for instant access.

Mac (Safari)

  • Open NoodleTale.com in Safari.
  • In the top menu bar, go to File > Add to Dock.
  • Click Add.
  • Open NoodleTale anytime directly from your Mac’s Dock or Launchpad as a standalone app window.

Important Note

  • Some browsers may not support this.
