When seventeen-year-old food-loving bookshop assistant Mei-Ling discovers that every dumpling prepared for Hanamura’s biggest festival has mysteriously vanished, she follows a trail of purple flour into a hidden world beneath the city. There she discovers the secretive Doughlings, a forgotten race of magical dumpling-makers who stole the festival food because their ancient recipes had been abandoned. But when the underground Great Steamer begins to break down, Mei-Ling must combine her cooking instincts, an ancient ingredient, and the help of her friends to save both the Doughlings and the festival. Along the way, she learns that the things people forget can sometimes hold the greatest stories—and the tastiest surprises.
